Our journey started with an unexpected experience when we were visiting a friend in Medan, Indonesia. We were on an educational tour to the highlands to experience the origin of natural food and how it was cultured. To our surprise, many local farmers were still working on traditional agriculture ways. In other words, it’s all natural and no agricultural chemicals or pesticides were used. Yet, these good and honest farmers were living a harmonious and simple lifestyle working on their lands which bears quality produce. Today, this practice is known as permaculture.

While, for many people, the emotional connection with food could start as early as the youth days. Flavours may vary amongst the local communities be it rendang, ‘kueh-muih’ type desserts both savouries and sweets, grilled meats with local spices to long-hour stews. It just brings back many sweet culinary memories from our childhood be it dining at restaurants, coffee shops or ‘kopitiam’, food stalls and food streets or more amazing, enjoying authentic home cook food.
